Jamshedpur: Uttam Kumar Singh, 43, died while undergoing treatment in Mauda village, located in the Baharagora block of East Singhbhum district’s rural area. Uttam had been suffering from fever and diarrhea for the past few days. When his condition deteriorated, his family called a doctor who ran a clinic in the village to treat him at home. The family alleges that Uttam’s condition worsened and he died due to the doctor’s alleged negligence during the treatment. However, the actual cause of death can only be confirmed after the post-mortem report is received.
According to the family, Uttam Kumar Singh’s condition suddenly worsened on Friday. Consequently, the family summoned the local doctor. It is alleged that Uttam complained of a severe burning sensation in his body during the treatment, yet the doctor continued to administer injections. Shortly thereafter, Uttam’s condition became critical, and he lost consciousness.
After his condition deteriorated, family members and villagers rushed him to the Baharagora Community Health Centre (CHC) in a private vehicle. Doctors examined him at the hospital, but Uttam had already passed away. Dr. Utpal Murmu, the in-charge of Baharagora CHC, stated that Uttam Kumar Singh was brought to the hospital dead. He added that the exact cause of death would only become clear after the post-mortem report was available.
Upon receiving information about the incident, the Baharagora police arrived at the CHC, took custody of the body, and completed the inquest formalities. On Saturday, the body was sent to MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur for a post-mortem examination. Following the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.
Ravikant Singh, a relative of the deceased, stated that Uttam Kumar Singh is survived by two children. The family has informed the police about the entire matter and lodged a complaint against the alleged quack who treated him in the village. They allege that Uttam lost his life due to the doctor’s negligence. Based on the complaint, the police have initiated an investigation. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the post-mortem report.
