Jamshedpur: An incident has been reported from Kuiyani Pahadiya Tola, under the Bodam police station area of East Singhbhum district, where a woman attacked herself with an axe on Wednesday evening. The 27-year-old woman, Rita Pahadiya, sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at MGM Medical College Hospital, where doctors are closely monitoring her condition.
According to family members, Rita’s husband, Tapan Pahadiya, was away for work at the time of the incident, while her mother-in-law was cooking at home. During this time, Rita got into a dispute with some villagers over an issue. She suddenly went inside the house, picked up an axe, and struck herself on the head and neck.
Her mother-in-law raised an alarm and called the neighbors. When people entered the house, they found Rita lying on the ground, covered in blood, with the axe nearby. Her brother, Chhatar Pahadiya—a resident of Chauka—was informed of the incident. Family members immediately rushed her to MGM Medical College Hospital in critical condition, where she was admitted and treatment began.
Her brother, Chhatar Pahadiya, stated that Rita has been suffering from mental illness for several months. She had undergone both medical treatment and traditional faith healing rituals. He mentioned that this is the second time such an incident has occurred.
Doctors at MGM Hospital stated that the woman is undergoing treatment. Due to excessive blood loss, she was administered a unit of blood around 10 PM on Wednesday. Medical staff are continuously monitoring her condition.
