Rajnagar: A tragic road accident claimed one life late Thursday night on the Hata–Chaibasa main road under the Rajnagar police station area of Seraikela-Kharsawan district. The accident took place near Bagraisai, where an unidentified speeding vehicle struck a man who was crossing the road.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. After being hit, the severely injured man reportedly lay on the road the entire night. Due to the darkness and the isolated location, no one noticed him. Locals believe he suffered in pain for several hours and eventually died from excessive bleeding and exposure to cold before help could reach.
On Friday morning, villagers discovered the body and immediately informed the Rajnagar police. Station In-charge Chanchal Kumar arrived at the scene with his team and, with the assistance of a 108 ambulance, sent the victim to the Rajnagar Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared him dead.
The deceased was identified as Bada Ram Murmu alias Tunu (40), a resident of Gamdesai village in Rajnagar. As per reports, he had gone to his in-laws’ house in Dandu village to celebrate the Sohrai festival and was returning home on foot late at night when tragedy struck. His leg was badly crushed, suggesting the impact was severe.
The incident has plunged his family into grief. His wife, Pano Murmu, rushed from her parents’ house upon hearing the news and broke down upon seeing the body. Murmu is survived by his wife, one son, and two daughters.
Angry villagers and family members have demanded that authorities identify and arrest the unknown driver responsible for the accident and take strict action to ensure justice.
