Seraikela, Jharkhand: A major burglary was reported late Tuesday night in Pitki village under the Nimdih police station area, where unidentified thieves targeted the house of Bhadreshwar Gop. Around 1:30 a.m., the burglars drilled a hole in the main door to gain entry and broke open the locks of an almirah and trunk, escaping with cash, gold and silver jewellery, and other valuables.
According to Bhadreshwar Gop, he woke up around 3 a.m. to find the main door open and household items scattered in the courtyard. On checking, he discovered that approximately ₹4 lakh in cash and jewellery were missing. Bricks and stones found outside the house suggested that the thieves were prepared for violence if confronted. The entire family has been left in shock and fear after the incident.
The news of the theft spread rapidly, causing panic across the village. Local residents gathered to discuss security concerns and demanded that police increase night patrolling in the area to prevent further incidents.
Upon receiving information, Nimdih police reached the spot and began an investigation. A formal complaint was lodged by Bhadreshwar Gop and his sons against unidentified burglars. Police stated that the number and identity of the culprits are still unknown. Family members mentioned that a few months earlier, there had been an attempted theft at their home and a neighbor’s house, which was foiled due to villagers’ alertness.
Bhadreshwar Gop’s two sons work in a private plant. One of them, Saurav Gop, said he was shocked to see the condition of the house after returning from his night shift. Villagers alleged that the lack of regular night police patrols has emboldened criminals and urged authorities to take strict action.
