Jamshedpur: A tribute ceremony was held on Saturday at the statue of the late Nirmal Mahto—an immortal warrior of the Jharkhand movement located outside Chamaria Guest House in Bistupur. Leaders from various political parties, social activists, supporters, and family members paid heartfelt tributes by offering floral offerings at his statue.
The event was attended by Nirmal Mahto’s family members, Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, Ichagarh MLA and family member Savita Mahto, and his daughter, alongside a large number of citizens. Everyone paid homage to his struggle and martyrdom by offering flowers at his portrait and statue.
Speakers on the occasion remarked that Nirmal Mahto had dedicated his life to strengthening the movement for Jharkhand’s identity, rights, and statehood. His leadership, struggle, and sacrifice played a pivotal role in giving a new direction to the Jharkhand movement. The people of the state will always remember his contributions to the creation of a separate Jharkhand state with respect.
Speaking on the occasion, Ichagarh MLA Savita Mahto stated that Nirmal Mahto’s ideas and the path he showed remain relevant today. She reiterated her resolve to work continuously for the development of Jharkhand, the public interest, and the rights of the people, while embracing his ideals.
The atmosphere during the event was emotional. Reminiscing about memories of Nirmal Mahto, people pledged to fulfill his unaccomplished dreams. The tribute meeting was attended by JMM Central Executive office-bearer Mohan Karmakar, Central Committee member Kablu Mahto, former MP Suman Mahto, as well as JMM leaders Sagen Purti, Babulal, and numerous other party leaders, workers, and supporters. Additionally, hundreds of BJP workers led by District President Sanjeev Sinha along with a large number of women and other citizens, paid tribute to this great hero of the Jharkhand movement by offering flowers at the statue.
