Chakradharpur: A major human trafficking racket was busted in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district after a joint operation conducted by the police, the Labor Department, and the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). During a late-night raid at Hotel K2 in Chakradharpur, authorities rescued 30 adult laborers and six minor children who were allegedly being prepared for illegal transportation to Gujarat for bonded labor.

Police also seized a Rajlakshmi Travels bus (registration number OR 11H 0797), which was reportedly arranged to transport the laborers out of the state.

Addressing the media on Monday, Chakradharpur Police Station In-charge Awadhesh Kumar said that the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Porahat had received confidential information on Sunday night regarding the illegal trafficking operation. According to the tip-off, traffickers had accommodated several men, women, and children at Hotel K2 before sending them to Gujarat.

Following the information, District Legal Services Authority official and Labor Enforcement Officer Sajes Mahto alerted Karra Society for Rural Action (Ranchi), Childline, and the police administration. Acting under the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, a special raiding team was formed under the leadership of the Assistant Superintendent of Police-cum-SDPO of Chakradharpur.

The team included Police Station In-charge Awadhesh Kumar, Parameshwar Oraon, Raj Kishore Tiwari, Birbal Chaubey, and armed police personnel. The police team surrounded Hotel K2 late at night, conducted the raid, and safely rescued all individuals from the premises.

Among those rescued were 30 adult laborers and six minor children, including five boys and one girl. Following the directives of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Chaibasa, all rescued minors were handed over to Childline, Chaibasa, for safe custody and counseling.

During the operation, police arrested two alleged human traffickers from Gujarat. The accused have been identified as Nikunj Govind Borsaniya (32), a resident of Shriji Palace, Sardar Society, Morbi, Rajkot, Gujarat, and Kadivar Nilesh Bhai (34), a resident of Rushash Nagar, Morbi, Gujarat.

An FIR has been registered against both accused at Chakradharpur Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Child Labour Act. Both have been sent to judicial custody.

Police officials stated that an investigation into the larger trafficking network is currently underway, and more arrests are likely in the coming days.
