The incident occurred while she was performing high-speed stunts inside the wooden structure. The bike was soon engulfed in flames, leaving the performer with burn injuries and triggering panic among spectators. She was taken to hospital for treatment, while the motorcycle was completely destroyed by the fire.
According to eyewitnesses, the death well show was under way at the fair in Barmamines Durga Puja Maidan on Sunday night. The woman was riding at high speed inside a wooden structure approximately 20 feet high. Spectators were watching the performance from a platform near the top of the structure when smoke and sparks began emerging from the motorcycle’s engine area.
The fire quickly spread across the bike. As the flames intensified, the woman struggled to maintain her balance, fell and suffered burn injuries. The incident sparked panic among the crowd, with spectators shouting and rushing towards safer areas.
The death well operator and staff attempted to extinguish the fire using water and soil. Fortunately, the flames did not spread to the entire wooden structure, which could have resulted in a more serious accident. By the time the fire was brought under control, the motorcycle had been badly burnt.
A video of the incident has since circulated on social media, raising questions about safety arrangements at the fair. The incident has highlighted the need to examine whether adequate fire-fighting equipment, emergency evacuation measures and medical assistance were available for the high-risk stunt show.\n\nThe exact cause of the motorcycle fire remains unknown. A technical fault or fuel leakage has been suggested as a possible cause, but neither explanation has been confirmed. The cause will need to be established through an investigation.
