Gamharia, Seraikela-Kharsawan: Acting on the directives of the Deputy Commissioner of Seraikela-Kharsawan, the Excise Department conducted a major raid on Tuesday in Ukam village under the Gamharia police station area. Based on a tip-off, officials busted an illegal country liquor distillery, destroying around 400 kilograms of Jawa (fermented raw material) and seizing 35 litres of prepared Mahua liquor from the site.

During the operation, the illegal distillery operator, Sonaram Murmu, was arrested on the spot. Officials have initiated proceedings to file a case against him under relevant sections of the Excise Act.

According to the Excise Superintendent, Seraikela, continuous raids are being carried out across the district to curb illegal liquor production and sale. He emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against individuals involved in such unlawful activities to ensure complete control over the illicit liquor trade in the district.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of Excise Sub-Inspector Akhilesh Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Saudagar Pandit from the Adityapur Excise Range, with support from Home Guard personnel Bariyar Hembram, Ranjit Kumar, and other department staff.
