Jamshedpur: A severe road accident occurred on DB Road in the Bagbera police station area around 6:30 AM on Thursday. A speeding Maruti Ertiga car went out of control, struck pedestrians walking along the roadside, knocked down an electric pole, and crashed into a shop. Five people were seriously injured in the accident; the condition of one of them, Prem Mahto, is reported to be extremely critical.
According to locals, the Ertiga was traveling from Ranchi towards Jamshedpur. Eyewitnesses claim that a young man named Raju was in the car along with three or four companions. Locals allege that the occupants had consumed alcohol, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. However, the police have not yet officially confirmed drunk driving.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the car first hit people on the road before smashing through a roadside electric pole and crashing into the shop of well-known journalist Vijay Singh, located on DB Road. The impact was so severe that the shop’s exterior was damaged, causing panic and chaos in the area.
Following the accident, locals immediately initiated rescue efforts. All the injured were sent to the hospital for treatment, where Prem Mahto remains in critical condition. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Bagbera police arrived at the scene, took the damaged car into custody, and launched an investigation.
The police are investigating the role of the driver and the other occupants. They are also determining whether the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Further action in the matter will be taken based on the investigation report.
