Kapali (Seraikela-Kharsawan): A major theft was averted in Kapali OP area on Wednesday due to the alertness of local residents. Two thieves broke into the house of Maksud Alam, located near Sarfuddin Mosque, and attempted to steal gold jewelry worth around ₹5 lakh.
According to reports, the thieves have been identified as Faizan Akhtar and Pinta. They entered the house by opening the garage door and threw the stolen ornaments into a nearby vacant plot to retrieve them later. However, as they tried to flee, the women of the house spotted them. One of the thieves attempted to threaten the women with a knife, but their loud cries for help alerted nearby residents.
The crowd managed to catch Faizan Akhtar, who was beaten by the locals before being handed over to Kapali OP police. The second accused, Pinta, managed to escape from the scene. Police have recovered most of the stolen jewelry, though a pair of earrings and anklets are still missing.
A written complaint has been lodged at the Kapali OP police station by Maksud Alam. Police have launched a manhunt for the absconding accused, and an investigation into the case is ongoing.
