Kapali: In a major success under a special अभियान against drug trafficking, Kapali police in Seraikela-Kharsawan district busted a brown sugar racket. During the operation, police seized around 16 grams of brown sugar, an Apple mobile phone, and a scooter (registration number JH05DJ-2883). However, the main supplier of the contraband, Mohammad Firdaus, a resident of Adityapur, managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

Sharing details on Monday, Kapali Police Station In-charge Dhiranjan Kumar said that several important and shocking facts emerged during the investigation. It was revealed that a woman peddler, Reshma Parveen, was actively involved in the illegal trade of brown sugar. Acting swiftly, the police arrested Reshma Parveen (around 44 years old) from a rented house near Kala Eid Bhatta in the Hasandungri area of Kapali.

During interrogation, the accused woman confessed that Mohammad Firdaus, a resident of Muslim Basti, Road No. H under Adityapur police station limits, used to supply her brown sugar, which she further sold in the Kapali area.

According to the police, Reshma Parveen is originally from Adityapur and had been living in Kapali in a rented house for the past three months. The police station in-charge said that they had been receiving confidential information for some time about a youth from Adityapur supplying brown sugar in Kapali. Based on this tip-off, the police laid a trap and conducted the operation, but the main accused managed to flee.

Police have identified the absconding supplier and are conducting continuous raids to arrest him. Officials claimed that the accused would be arrested soon and sent to judicial custody. The estimated market value of the seized brown sugar is around ₹3.20 lakh.
