Jamshedpur: A tragic road accident occurred on Monday near the Barigoda railway crossing under the Parsudih police station area, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old girl on the spot, while another young girl accompanying her was seriously injured. Following the incident, angry locals blocked the road and railway track and vandalized the bus involved in the accident.

According to eyewitnesses and family members, a passenger bus was parked on the roadside near the railway gate. The bus driver had reportedly applied the handbrake and gone nearby to have tea. During this time, while the railway gate was closed, the handbrake allegedly failed and the bus began rolling backward. The bus rammed into a scooter parked behind it, trapping the teenage girl underneath and killing her instantly.

The deceased has been identified as Anjali Kumari (16), a resident of Subhash Tola, Barigoda, under Parsudih police station limits. Family members said Anjali had stepped out to buy some essential items. She was accompanied by her cousin Nidhi Kumari, aged around 10 to 12 years, who sustained serious injuries in the accident. With the help of local residents, the injured child was rushed to Tata Motors Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment. Doctors have described her condition as critical and said she is under constant medical observation.

As news of the accident spread, local residents gathered at the spot and expressed strong anger over the incident. Protesters raised slogans and blocked both the road and the nearby railway track, disrupting traffic for some time. During the protest, the crowd also vandalized the bus involved, causing significant damage to the vehicle.

On receiving information, Parsudih police reached the scene and worked to bring the situation under control. The police pacified the crowd and cleared the road and railway track to restore normal movement. The victim’s family member, Dharmendra Kumar Thakur, said they want the bus owner to come forward, hold talks with the family, and assure justice for the victims. The family stated that they would decide on further legal steps only after this.

Police officials said the incident is being thoroughly investigated. The role of the bus driver’s negligence, reasons behind the handbrake failure, and compliance with safety standards are being examined. Authorities also said appropriate legal action will be taken against those found responsible, as per the law.
