Guwahati: Assam Water Resources Minister Sushanta Borgohain has assured flood-affected families in Upper Assam that the state government is taking serious steps to resolve issues preventing eligible beneficiaries from receiving the ₹15,000 financial assistance announced for flood victims.
The minister said some flood-affected families have not yet received the assistance due to technical issues, including incorrect or unavailable bank account numbers, IFSC codes and the absence of Aadhaar linkage with their bank accounts.
Borgohain said the government is taking necessary measures to address these problems so that all eligible beneficiaries can receive the financial assistance at the earliest. He emphasised that genuine flood victims should not be deprived of government support because of technical or procedural difficulties.
The minister also provided details about the ongoing damage assessment survey for families in Upper Assam who have suffered major losses due to the devastating floods.
According to Borgohain, a teacher and a panchayat representative will conduct door-to-door surveys to assess the extent of flood-related damage. The survey is being carried out alongside ongoing flood relief and rehabilitation efforts.
He said the door-to-door assessment will help the authorities identify families genuinely affected by the floods and determine the assistance they are entitled to receive under government norms.
The minister reiterated that the state government is committed to ensuring that every eligible flood-affected family receives the required financial support. He said efforts are being made to eliminate technical and administrative hurdles and ensure timely delivery of assistance to those who have suffered losses in the floods.
