Jamshedpur: On Friday, the Ministry of Railways gave its approval for the final location surveys of two significant rail projects, prioritizing the Tatanagar region under the South Eastern Railway zone. These projects include the development of a new Satellite Coaching Terminal near Tatanagar and the laying of fourth and fifth railway lines between Pandrasali and Kandra.
The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned a total of ₹1.812 crore for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for these two initiatives. Of this amount, ₹55.20 lakh has been allocated specifically for the survey of the proposed Coaching Terminal near Tatanagar. This terminal is envisioned to evolve into a satellite station for the future operation, maintenance, origination, and termination of trains, thereby significantly alleviating the mounting operational pressure on the main Tatanagar station.
Given the rapidly increasing passenger volume and the growing number of trains, this new terminal is expected to streamline railway operations. This will lead to a reduction in train turnaround times and an improvement in punctuality—benefits that will directly accrue to the passengers.
Meanwhile, a sum of ₹1.26 crore has been sanctioned for the survey of the proposed 42-kilometer-long fourth and fifth railway lines between Pandrasali and Kandra, falling under the jurisdiction of the Chakradharpur Division. These new lines will bypass busy junctions such as Rajkharsawan and Sini, thereby reducing congestion on this route and facilitating smoother train operations.
Upon the completion of these projects, rail connectivity within Tatanagar and its surrounding regions will be significantly strengthened. Furthermore, freight transportation capacity will be enhanced, thereby accelerating industrial activities and providing fresh impetus to regional economic growth.
