Ranchi/Chaibasa: In a major success for Jharkhand Police’s anti-Naxal campaign “Operation Navjeevan,” a total of 27 Maoists affiliated with the CPI (Maoist) and the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) surrendered before security forces. The surrendered cadres were active in the Kolhan, Saranda, and Gumla regions and included several top commanders and squad members wanted in multiple serious criminal cases.
According to police officials, the surrendered rebels were involved in attacks on police, CRPF personnel, and security forces, apart from IED blasts, weapon looting, murders, and several other Naxal-related incidents across Jharkhand.
Among the most prominent names is Sagen Angaria alias Dokol alias Shyam Lal Angaria, a resident of the Goilkera police station area in West Singhbhum district. Police records show that 123 Naxal-related cases are registered against him in Chaibasa district alone. He was allegedly involved in the 2022 attack on former MLA Gurucharan Nayak, the Rajabasa IED blast, the Reddah-Hucipi encounter, the Baliba explosion, the Ratamati blast, and several encounters with security forces. A reward of ₹5 lakh had been announced for his arrest.
Another key surrendering Maoist is Karan alias Dangur Tiyu, also from the Goilkera area, who served as an Area Commander in the outfit. He faces 29 registered cases in Chaibasa district, and authorities had declared a reward of ₹2 lakh on him.
Police also confirmed the surrender of Gadi Munda alias Gulshan, who is wanted in 48 cases across Chaibasa, Seraikela, Ranchi, and Khunti districts. He was allegedly involved in the March 2023 looting of explosive materials, several encounters with police, and multiple IED blast incidents. A reward of ₹5 lakh had been declared for his capture.
Similarly, Nagendra Munda alias Prabhat Munda alias Mukhiya alias Parau surrendered before authorities. He faces 38 criminal cases in Chaibasa and Seraikela districts and was reportedly active in several Maoist attacks and blast incidents. A bounty of ₹5 lakh was also announced for him.
Among the surrendered cadres is Rekha Munda alias Jayanti, a woman Maoist commander with 18 registered cases in Chaibasa and Seraikela districts. Police said she played an active role in several Maoist operations. A reward of ₹5 lakh had been declared on her.
Another surrendered cadre, Darshan alias Binj Hansda, has 14 cases registered in Chaibasa district and was allegedly involved in the attack on former MLA Gurucharan Nayak and other Maoist activities.
Meanwhile, Suleman Hansda alias Suni Hansda alias Chamra faces 13 registered cases in Chaibasa district. According to police, he too was involved in several major Maoist incidents, including the attack on Gurucharan Nayak.
Police officials stated that the surrendered Maoists were wanted in connection with several major incidents, including the January 2022 attack on former MLA Gurucharan Nayak, the March 2023 looting of 7,000 detonators and explosive materials, the Lowabeda IED blast in July 2023, the Tumbahaka encounter in August 2023, and the Rajabasa blast in January 2023.
They were also allegedly involved in IED attacks targeting security forces in the Chotanagra region during March and April 2025, along with firing and blast incidents in the Kolbanka and Dalaigara forest areas in 2026.
In addition, two cadres associated with the JJMP outfit—Sachin Baick alias Yuthin Baick and Shravan Gop—also surrendered before the authorities. Sachin Baick faces six registered cases in Gumla district and carried a reward of ₹5 lakh, while Shravan Gop is wanted in eight cases across Gumla and Simdega districts.
Police officials described the mass surrender as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in Jharkhand and said rehabilitation measures under “Operation Navjeevan” are encouraging extremists to return to the mainstream.
