Ranchi/Chaibasa: In a significant breakthrough for Jharkhand Police in its anti-Naxal operations, 27 Maoists associated with the CPI (Maoist) and JJMP outfits surrendered under the state government’s rehabilitation initiative, “Operation Navjeevan.” The surrendered cadres were active in the Kolhan, Saranda, and Gumla regions and included several notorious commanders and armed squad members wanted in multiple serious criminal cases.

Police officials stated that the surrendered extremists were involved in attacks on police personnel, CRPF and security forces, IED blasts, weapon looting, encounters, and murder cases across various districts of Jharkhand.

The most prominent among them is Sagen Angaria alias Dokol alias Shyam Lal Angaria, a resident of the Goilkera police station area in West Singhbhum district. According to police records, he faces 123 Naxal-related cases in Chaibasa district. He was allegedly involved in several major incidents, including the 2022 attack on former MLA Gurucharan Nayak, the Rajabasa IED blast, the Reddah-Hucipi encounter, the Baliba explosion, the Ratamati blast, and multiple encounters with security forces. A reward of ₹5 lakh had been announced for his arrest.

Another key Maoist who surrendered is Karan alias Dangur Tiyu, also from the Goilkera area, who served as an Area Commander within the outfit. He faces 29 criminal cases in Chaibasa district and carried a bounty of ₹2 lakh.

Among the surrendered cadres is Gadi Munda alias Gulshan, who is wanted in 48 cases across Chaibasa, Seraikela, Ranchi, and Khunti districts. Police said he was involved in the March 2023 looting of explosive materials, several encounters with police, and multiple IED-related incidents. A reward of ₹5 lakh had been declared for his capture.

Similarly, Nagendra Munda alias Prabhat Munda alias Mukhiya alias Parau surrendered before the authorities. He faces 38 cases in Chaibasa and Seraikela districts and was reportedly involved in numerous Maoist attacks and blast incidents. Police had also declared a reward of ₹5 lakh on him.

A woman Maoist commander, Rekha Munda alias Jayanti, also laid down arms. She faces 18 cases in Chaibasa and Seraikela districts and was actively involved in Maoist operations. A reward of ₹5 lakh had been announced for her arrest.

Police also confirmed the surrender of Darshan alias Binj Hansda, who has 14 cases registered against him in Chaibasa district. He was allegedly involved in the attack on former MLA Gurucharan Nayak and several other Maoist activities.

Another surrendered cadre, Suleman Hansda alias Suni Hansda alias Chamra, faces 13 cases in Chaibasa district. Police said he too was involved in several major Maoist incidents, including the attack on Gurucharan Nayak.

According to officials, the surrendered Maoists were wanted in connection with several high-profile incidents, including the January 2022 attack on former MLA Gurucharan Nayak, the March 2023 looting of 7,000 detonators and explosive materials, the Lowabeda IED blast in July 2023, the Tumbahaka encounter in August 2023, and the Rajabasa blast.

They were also allegedly involved in IED attacks targeting security forces in the Chotanagra region during March and April 2025, along with firing and explosion incidents in the Kolbanka and Dalaigara forest areas in 2026.

Meanwhile, two members associated with the JJMP organization—Sachin Baick alias Yuthin Baick and Shravan Gop—also surrendered before the police. Sachin Baick faces six registered cases in Gumla district and carried a reward of ₹5 lakh, while Shravan Gop is wanted in eight cases across Gumla and Simdega districts.

Jharkhand Police described the mass surrender as a major achievement under “Operation Navjeevan,” aimed at encouraging extremists to return to the mainstream through rehabilitation and reintegration initiatives.
