Jamshedpur: The cancellation of the Jallianwala Bagh Express has sparked opposition in Jamshedpur, with Satbir Singh Sumo meeting South Eastern Railway Additional General Manager Manish Kumar Jain at Tatanagar station on Monday and urging the railway not to discontinue the service. He said the Jallianwala Bagh Express is an important long-distance train for passengers from Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. Sumo told the AGM that the cancellation would force thousands of passengers to depend on other trains. With limited alternative rail services available for long-distance journeys, passengers could face additional inconvenience and financial burden. He urged railway officials to reconsider the decision keeping passengers’ convenience in mind. He said the train has been cancelled during the fog season for the past four years due to the possibility of poor visibility. The preparations to cancel the service again this year have led to anger among passengers. Sumo asked the railway to explore operational changes during foggy conditions instead of cancelling the train completely. Sumo also pointed out that the Hatia-Anand Vihar Swarn Jayanti Express has not been cancelled this year following opposition from elected representatives in Ranchi. He said the Jallianwala Bagh Express should also be given similar relief and urged the railway to adopt a uniform policy in the interest of passengers and continue the train service.
