Jamshedpur Illegal liquor den busted, 3,000 kg mahua destroyed

Jamshedpur : The excise department has intensified its campaign against illegal liquor in East Singhbhum district, with an illegal liquor manufacturing site busted in the forest of Kalajhor village under MGM police station on Thursday. The action was carried out on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Rajiv Ranjan, with a large quantity of liquor-making material seized and destroyed at the site. During a search inside the forest, the excise department team recovered around 3,000 kg of Java mahua stored in various drums. Preliminary investigation found that the mahua was being used to prepare country-made liquor. After searching the area, the team destroyed the recovered mahua on the spot, disrupting the illegal liquor-making process. The team also seized 105 litres of illegal country-made liquor during the operation. Other materials used in liquor production were destroyed as well. The use of an isolated location deep inside the forest indicated that those involved in the operation were using such areas to evade the attention of the police and administration. Action has been initiated to register an absconding case under relevant sections of the Excise Act against suspected accused persons, including Gunodhar Mahto. The department is also investigating the identities and roles of others allegedly linked to the illegal liquor trade. The administration has made it clear that its campaign against the manufacture, storage and sale of illegal liquor in the district will continue. Officials have been directed to take strict action in accordance with the law against those involved in the illegal trade. The operation in the Kalajhor forest has created concern among those linked to the illegal liquor business.
