Jamshedpur: Two separate incidents of student violence in Jamshedpur on Wednesday have sparked serious concern among parents and teachers. Fights and stabbing incidents at Motilal Nehru Public School (Bistupur) and Dimna Middle School (Mango-Dimna) have raised alarming questions about student safety and the effectiveness of school security systems.
The first incident occurred outside Motilal Nehru Public School in the Bistupur police station area, where a minor collision between students after school hours escalated into a violent attack. According to sources, a student named Tausif Khan accidentally bumped into another student on the staircase. Following an argument, the accused student called a few of his friends. Soon, they gathered outside the school gate and attacked Tausif as he stepped out. During the assault, one of the attackers stabbed him in the back, leaving him severely injured. Teachers and fellow students rushed him to Tata Main Hospital (TMH), where he is currently under treatment. Tausif is a resident of Golmuri.
The second incident took place at Dimna Middle School in Mango, where Rounak Munda, an 8th-grade student, was brutally beaten by his classmates — Radheshyam Patro, Somnath Mardi, and Manik Kumar — using belts, metal bracelets, and sticks. The incident occurred inside the school premises while acting principal Rita Devi and several teachers were present, yet no one informed the police or the parents. Local residents rushed the injured student to MGM Hospital, where he was placed on oxygen support and later sent for a CT scan. His mother, Sangeeta Munda, stated that he suffered a deep head injury caused by a belt buckle.
Reacting to the incident, Hemant Pathak, state executive member of Yuva JDU, criticized the school administration, saying, “Such violent acts inside school premises are disgraceful. Teachers failed in their moral duty by remaining silent spectators. Neither the police nor the parents were informed.” He added that a Yuva JDU delegation would visit the school on Thursday to demand action against the guilty students and negligent teachers.
Both incidents have triggered outrage among parents, who are questioning how students are managing to bring weapons onto school premises and why school authorities are failing to ensure safety. Police have begun investigations in both cases.
