Jamshedpur: A deeply tragic incident has emerged from the Baharagora police station area in the East Singhbhum district, where a home once brimming with joy has suddenly been plunged into mourning. In a family where wedding preparations were at their peak—with the ceremony just four days away—the sounds of wedding *shehnais* have now been replaced by the echoes of heart-wrenching sobs.
Animesh Sahu, a 23-year-old resident of Uinala village, allegedly committed suicide on Friday night. His body was discovered on Saturday morning, hanging from a tree within a cashew orchard located behind the Polytechnic College. Upon receiving the information, the Baharagora police arrived at the scene; after taking custody of the body and completing the necessary preliminary formalities (*panchnama*), they sent it to the Ghatshila Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
According to family members, Animesh had been deeply distressed over his sister’s upcoming wedding for the past few days. The wedding was scheduled for April 21st, and preparations were in full swing at home; however, Animesh remained under constant stress due to the family’s financial constraints. His father, Mahadev Sahu, told the police that given the family’s precarious economic situation, Animesh had succumbed to immense mental pressure regarding the expenses associated with the wedding. He frequently worried about money and felt utterly helpless.
It is reported that Animesh had been missing from home since April 17th. His family members conducted an extensive search, but they were unable to locate him. Subsequently, the police were informed, and with the assistance of the technical cell, his mobile phone location was tracked. During this process, his last known location was traced to the cashew orchard area, where—during the ensuing search—his body was discovered hanging from a tree.
As news of the incident spread, a wave of grief swept across the entire village. The family members, who had been immersed in wedding preparations, are now in a state of profound shock. The home, which was being readied to welcome wedding guests, is now receiving relatives arriving to offer their condolences. The villagers, too, are stunned by this tragedy and are rallying around the bereaved family to offer comfort and support.
The police have registered a case of Unnatural Death (UD) in connection with the incident, and a thorough investigation into the entire sequence of events is currently underway. Officials state that, prima facie, the case appears to be one of suicide, although all aspects are being investigated.
